The Third Story [22]

XXII. Game Plan

I jumped right back
to see who startled me and guess what, it was no other than Seth himself.

You really like scaring the hell out of me, don't you? I accused, throwing a furious glare at him.

He just shrugged, smirking like ever. I'm not quite sure about that, you know?

ARGH! You really are one stupid-

Hush! Unless you want them coming here. He said, eyeing the two who were just as startled as I was. James was on his feet, scanning the area for anything unusual.

This is all your fault dimwit! If they see us here, they're gonna suspect that-

That you're watching them intently, not planning to get noticed but just did. He said, sounding more sure with his claims than I am.

Whatever! I exclaimed defeatedly. From a short distance, I heard the footsteps drawing near us. Panic shot through me. Are you just gonna stand there? Come on! Do something! I demanded, sounding as desperate as Yza had been back in the gym.

I thought you'd never ask. He laughed mostly to himself. He then asked me to tilt my head sideways.

Why would I even do that?! I shrieked. My subconscious was telling me that I've put myself in a greater danger than what I feared.

Just do it okay?! We don't have much time. I told you before, I don't bite! He said defensively. Unwillingly, I closed my eyes and faced sideways, leaving the side of my neck exposed to his feasting eyes.

Just stay still. His breath touched my skin, sending shivers down my spine that I felt embarrassed in spite of myself. Why am I letting this guy have this effect on me?

Just don't move. He said again, leaning on my side. I felt the tip of his nose on my jaw, making me gulp.

What-- A shocked yet familiar voice broke the spell, snapping my eyes open. Seth was no longer near me in an instant. His back was turned to me but I could feel the piercing gaze he was giving James.

What's going on in here? He asked, his face was a mix of confusion and disbelief.

Don't act stupid, brother. You know exactly what's going on. You guys are going for it too, I guess? Seth smirked, glancing
at James and Yza who looked away, embarrassed.

I don't know what you're talking about, Seth. James said, shaking his head lightly.

Seriously James, quit it. You're not a saint. The girl isn't too, I guess? Seth answered, his tone mocking. James was telling him to shut up but he still went on. Hey miss, is my cousin a good kisser? Yza, suprised by the question, turned beet red while James' face exploded with pure anger.

I told you to shut up! James aimed for Seth again, but Yza's restraining hand stopped him.

James, it's not worthit. Please. Don't get into another fight with him. Please. Just don't do it. She sobbed, making James' wrath melt as fast as it appeared.

Now that makes you a saint, I guess. Seth commented, obviously enjoying the drama he's witnessing right now.

James turned to Yza, trying to calm her down. He gave Seth a deadly glare before guiding Yza out of the back building. I watched them disappear out of my sight, letting out a breath that I didn't realize I was holding for so long.

You owe me again this time, Fling Queen. I jerked at the term, forgetting that Seth was still here with me.

Shut up. I'm tired. I said, starting to leave.

I think so. You didn't even say a single thing during the confrontation, which is so unlikely for someone who has a lot in mind. He said with a new edge on his tone
.

Now what are you trying to say exactly?

I know what you're trying to pull off. I know your game. He said all too knowingly. I raised a challenging eyebrow at him. You like my cousin so much, to the point that you'd do whatever it takes just to be near him. Even if it involves putting somebody else's name on the line.

You're imagining too much.

Am I? He grinned confidently. I let out a resigned sigh.

Okay. So what now if I like him? It's not like you can do anything about that. I said, crossing my arms.

I'm afraid I can do something about it. He said, but I just rolled my eyes at him. All the
scheming don't seem to work, do they?
He smirked again. I have a better game plan than yours, if you'd just allow me.

His invitation seems irresitable. After all, he already proved he has a knack for mapping out plans. Twice he did for today was convincingly realistic.

So what's your plan? I asked after a minute of deliberation
inside my head. His face broke into one of those unnerving smiles, defining the perfect angles of his high cheekbones.

The Tower. Saturday. 7pm. And don't bring your loyal friends. It's a date.
He winked then left me when I started to protest, my mouth slightly open.
