The THIRD Story [29]

XXIX. Glamour and Disgrace

But it's waterproof.
Kat said, applying her mascara in full strokes, making her lashes look thicker, longer, well defined and separated.

Lia and Kat were actually debating on whether to use mascara or not, the former thinking it might just smudge later on during our performance.

If you say so, Fashion Queen. I trust you and this Max Factor 2000 Calorie Aqua Lash of yours. Lia said, reading the mascara's brand name.

Today is the big day - it's the Cheerleading Competition that we've all been waiting for. An hour from now, we'll be shaking our asses off and sweeping everyone off of their feet. Getting my favorite MAC blush brush No.116, I smiled at the full-blown mirror in front of me and applied the blush in the "apples" of my cheeks to achieve the healthy flush I wanted.

The rest of the squad were busy with their black-gold costumes and hairstyles. They were walking here and there, shouting over one's shoulder to get this and that and arrange this fix that. I studied them through the mirror and smiled to myself when I felt that everything is going according to plan.

I told you I brought it! Suzie, the wannabe in pink headband back then, said. She was talking with her friend, Lizzie? I'm not sure, she's not even that important.

Maybe you left it in your house. Lizzie answered, twirling her hair for a small curl.

No, Liz. I'm sure I brought it with me. Suzie replied, rummaging her bag. It's supposed to be here. I can't possibly lose that. It's from Scandinavia for crying out loud! She screamed, and half of the people inside the locker room looked at her. Kat and Lia and I glanced at one another with our knowing smiles.

What are you whining about Suzie?! Lia asked as she was lining her eyebrow.

Suzie looked surprised with the attention but still she had that proud look on her face. I think someone stole my Scandinavian shampoo.

Your what?! I laughed, facing her. You brought your nobody-cares-wherever-it-came-from shampoo here? Seriously, what were you thinking? I crossed my arms in front of me and grinned at her.

Suzie started to explain herself but Kat cut her off. Were you thinking that if you showed off your shampoo it would make you an instant icon? Kat said, her elegant eyebrow arched. Bitch, it only made you look more pathetic than you already are. Besides, whatever shampoo you use, your hair will always be frizzy so stop it. Kat rolled her eyes.

I heard appreciative snickers from the squad, and Suzie's mouth was agape. Why do you even need a shampoo Suzie? She turned to look at me while her friend was staring at her hands.

I heard their family business is going down. Lia chirped and everyone looked at her. Maybe they weren't able to pay their water bills so she might just want to you know...take a bath in here. Something she hasn't done for a couple of days now.

You bitches! Suzie was literally fuming as she stood up and stormed off. We laughed yet again when we heard another sound from the shower area.

BLAAAG

OUCH!
A shout of pain echoed the room and we all stopped from our hearty laughters.

Who's that?! I asked but they all seemed to lose their voices. I looked at Lia and Kat as I walked towards the shower area while the rest were rooted in their positions.

Oh my god Yza what happened?! I shrieked in horror and run to her lying figure. I heard hurried footsteps behind me in an instant.

I..aww! My back hurts! She screamed in pain.

What happened to you? Tell me! I looked at her and she can't seem to move. Somebody call Ms. Dia! Or anyone from the first aid team! Now! I shouted at the unmoving and shocked girls behind me. I had to repeat what I said before someone finally moved - it was Lizzie.

Yza can you still feel your legs? Your back? Kat kneeled beside me, touching Yza's arm.

Yes, but it hurts. She breathed deeply. I just got out of the cubicle and then I don't know why but I slipped.

Oh my god. Lia blurted out. She picked up something from the tiled floor and stared at it for a moment. That Scandinavian freak! She screeched, showing me the empty shampoo bottle in her hand. I stood up and grabbed it from her.

That skank!

Look. Her shampoo's spilled all over the floor. Maybe that's why Yza slipped.

She's playing dirty all along. Kat shook her head.

The first aid team came a few minutes after. Ms. Dia was horrified when she saw Yza's state but the latter assured her that she'll be alright.

Hey watch out the skirt! Yza was already wearing her cheerleading costume so I had to tell them about it, because she might just show off.

Half of the squad followed them out while Kat, Lia and I stayed inside the locker room.

The coast is clear. Lia said. We then exchanged looks at one another before bursting out to our usual mean laughters.
